Moral injury basics
About this course
Our moral injury introductory course is a powerful introduction into moral injury and moral trauma. Initially designed by Nikki Jamieson in 2018 to help enhance awareness and understanding of moral injury and moral trauma. It has been an ever-evolving course which enables the increased understanding of moral injury and moral trauma, and its subsequent impacts helping those who have experienced or continue to experience the impacts.
Research indicates that understanding the impact and manifestations of MI/MT can help strengthen an individuals ability to handle the stress or trauma manifestation that presents itself. This is important because we often revert to our typical behaviours during times of moral stress. These behaviours may be unhealthy or damaging if they are extreme or are made with faulty perceptions or understanding.
A great many people struggle to cope with their emotions. Often, emotions can be deeply buried within and can rise to the surface fuelling an angry or irrational response. Those emotions which are born from trauma or are painful are often the most difficult to diffuse and alter. At times, it can take little to trigger an emotive reaction especially if emotions are already heightened. Think of it as emotions being turned to their maximum intensity. The feelings can be so strong that clients feel they cannot cope with them.
